I have sought, through careful and inevitable subtraction, to convey the poetry of Stelio Carnevali, identifying the mature texts in which his lyrical identity presents itself with clarity, depth, and purity.<\/em>
His poetry arises from a style apparently turned toward the past. Yet, it manages to shape itself with a personal character, within which he kindles and composes a narrative succession, through a rhythmic lyricism capable of distilling its essential foundations.<\/em>
The verse bursts forth with sudden cuts that break the predictable, streaking the sung experience with astonished bitterness\u2014always in moving connection with the vegetal and animal world. Irony and self-irony intertwine with delicate, feathery lightness, drawing us into the quick spiral of the verses. The kaleidoscopic everyday cracks open. We enter a sliver of illuminated perspective, whether of the present or within the poet\u2019s memory. Always with compassion and loving awareness.<\/em><\/p>\n

Carnevali sings his Mantuan land, his mother-origin, never yielding to nostalgic, fetal, lamenting twists. On the contrary, he succeeds in overturning the weight of dramatic intensity, attaining a fresh, oxygenated lightness.<\/em><\/p>\n

Stelio Carnevali<\/strong>
was born in Bagnolo San Vito (MN) in 1940.<\/p>\n

In 1964, fifteen of his texts, gathered under the title Poesia come pane<\/em>, were published thanks to Mario Artioli in the first issue of the journal Il Portico<\/em>. In 1976, Alberto Cappi included his poems in the anthology Le proporzioni poetiche, 2<\/em>, edited by Domenico Cara.<\/p>\n

He later published an expanded edition of Poesia come pane<\/em> (1992), Kal\u00f9bria<\/em> (1995), In disparte<\/em> (1998), L\u2019altra stanza<\/em> (1999), and Scritture peregrine<\/em> (2001). In 1999, Maurizio Cucchi published his poem Tina<\/em> in Specchio della Stampa<\/em>, and in 2001 Una parlata bianca<\/em>, later included in the collection of the same title published by Editoriale Sometti in 2002, with an introduction by Alberto Cappi.<\/p>\n

Several of his works also appeared in La Bottega di poesia<\/em> by Maurizio Cucchi in la Repubblica Milano<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In 2014, in collaboration with Vladimiro Bertazzoni, he published La morte ne infranse il volo<\/em>, almost a biography of the Mantuan musician Aldo Ottolenghi. Between 2015 and 2020 he published three volumes dedicated to the Milanese painter Franco Rognoni.<\/p>\n

Between 2022 and 2024 he published with FUOCOfuochino: \u00c8 notte e con la notte una voce<\/em>, Per mani esperte d\u2019altro<\/em>, and Anguria Blues<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In May 2024, during the tenth edition of the Terra di Virgilio Poetry Prize<\/em>, he received the Alberto Cappi Lifetime Achievement Award.<\/p>\n
